Music Ministry

At Galilee, we believe sacred music plays an important role in the liturgical and spiritual life of the church. Not only does it have the power to move hearts; it assists in raising our hearts and minds to God, deepening our connection with the Divine. Being part of the music ministry here is an opportunity to serve, learn, participate in something bigger than ourselves, and so much more.

If you have an interest, reach out to our Organist & Choirmaster, Mary Dolch at 757-428-3573 ext. 17.
Adult Choir
The adult choir sings the 11:00am service each Sunday, as well as several other special services during the year, including Compline, Evensong, All Souls Requiem, Lessons and Carols and much more. We even combine forces with other choirs on occasion to share our gifts with surrounding churches! Our adult choir is made up of both volunteers and trained professionals, and we rehearse 7:00-9:00pm each Thursday (September through May) and 10:00am each Sunday.

Youth Choirs
Our chorister program here at Galilee is constantly growing! Students build confidence, self-expression, listening skills, social-emotional skills, and experience being part of a team effort making music and assisting in leading worship.
Our youngest choristers, or “Cherubs Choir” (K-grade 2) rehearse during the 9:15 service Sunday mornings, learning a lot by rote, the basics of healthy singing, solfege, reading music, and why we sing as a church community. They occasionally sing for the 9:15 service, and for special occasions like Christmas Eve.
Our "Children's Choir" (grades 3-6) rehearse Wednesdays from 5pm-6pm, learning service music and delving deeper into the Royal School of Church Musicians' Curriculum, “Voice for Life.”  They typically sing once a month for either the 9:15am or 11:00am service, and join to sing together with the adults for special occasions such as All Saints Day, Lessons and Carols, Chistmas Eve, Annual Meeting Sunday, and more.
Our developing Middle School and High School Choir will rehearse Thursday evenings at 6:00pm, delving yet deeper into our music curriculum, singing together with the adult choir, and often helping the younger choristers.

Bell Choir
This group provides an opportunity to participate in instrumental music without having formal training. Our participants get a chance to develop their coordination and listening skills and to enjoy the beauty of music making in an ensemble setting. The Bell Choir will perform on occasion.

Contemporary Worship Team
This is a group of musicians and singers who desire to use their gifts to glorify and exalt the Lord through contemporary worship at 9:15am on Sundays. If you have musical ability and a desire to worship the Lord and serve Him with gladness, we would love to hear from you. For contemporary music inquiries, contact Jennifer Gammill at 428-3573, ext. 29.
